Biography
Lambert, Alexander
Born Warsaw Poland Nov 1 1862 Instructed in pf playing by his father Henry L from the age of ten at 12 he was sent by Rubinstein's advice to the Vienna Cons where he was graduated from Jul Fp stein's class at 16 After studying two years longer pf alone comp with Urban of Berlin he went in 1881 to New York and gave concerts at Steinway Hall then made a concert tour through Germany and Russia worked several months at Weimar under Liszt his classmates being Rosenthal Siloti Friedheim and Reisen auer and in 1884 returned to America Played in concerts at New York Boston Chicago etc and in 1888 became Director of the NY Coll of Music which position he still (1899) holds He retired from the concert platform in 1892.
